The short version
Sukoon is free. Use it as much as you like. Prayer times are calculated estimates, and your local mosque is the authority, not this app. The religious content is quoted from its sources and explained in plain words, and it is not a substitute for a scholar.
Using Sukoon
Sukoon is provided free for personal use. There is no account to create, nothing to subscribe to, and no ads. You may use it for as long as you find it useful, and stop whenever you like by deleting it.
Please do not attempt to copy the app and republish it as your own, or extract its content in bulk to build a competing product. Beyond that, we are not going to be precious about it.
Prayer times are calculated, not decreed
Sukoon works out prayer times on your device using standard astronomical formulas and the calculation convention you choose in Settings. This is the same method used across the field, and it is accurate, but it is arithmetic about the position of the sun, not a ruling.
Calculated times can differ from your local mosque's timetable by a few minutes. Mosques sometimes apply their own adjustments, follow a different convention, or take a deliberate margin of caution.
When the app and your mosque disagree, follow your mosque. This is written into the app itself and we mean it. Sukoon is there to help you know roughly when to expect a prayer and to remind you, not to overrule the people around you.
Very high latitudes are worth naming specifically. Above roughly the Arctic and Antarctic circles the sun may not rise or set for weeks at a time, and no calculation can produce meaningful times for those days. Sukoon offers the standard high-latitude rules for the surrounding periods, but if you live somewhere like that, your local community's ruling is the one that counts.
The religious content
The daily messages, guides and quiz are offered to be useful to people who are still learning, which is most of us. How they are handled:
- Qur'an quotations are the English translation by Saheeh International, quoted faithfully, with the chapter and verse cited on every one. Square brackets in the text are the translators' own clarifications.
- Hadith are well known narrations from the major collections, and each one names the collection it comes from.
- "What this means" is Sukoon's own plain English explanation, and it is always labelled as such. It is our understanding offered to help, never presented as translation and never as a ruling.
- Quiz answers and explanations stay to mainstream, widely agreed material. Where schools of thought differ, we either say so or leave the topic alone.
None of it is a fatwa and none of it is a substitute for asking someone qualified. If something in the app looks wrong to you, please tell us. We would rather be corrected than be confidently mistaken, and we will fix it.
Attribution
The English translation of the Qur'an used in Sukoon is by Saheeh International, published by Dar Abul-Qasim, used with attribution. The Arabic text follows the standard Uthmani text of the Madinah Mushaf. All rights in those texts remain with their respective holders. The prayer time calculation is a Swift implementation of the widely used PrayTimes.org algorithm.
Your data is yours
Everything the app records stays on your phone and belongs to you. We never receive it, so we can never sell it, lose it, or hand it over. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
The flip side is worth saying plainly: because there is no account and no backup on our side, your journal and settings live only on your device. If you delete the app or lose the phone, that history is gone and we cannot restore it for you. iPhone backups may include it, but that is between you and Apple.
What we do not promise
Sukoon is provided as it is. We have taken real care with accuracy, and the calculation engine is checked against independently published prayer time data, but we cannot guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or correct for every location and every convention on every day.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from relying on the app, including a prayer prayed early or late because of a calculated time, a missed notification, or content you believe to be in error. Nothing here is intended to exclude any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or similar laws where you live, which cannot be excluded by an agreement like this one.
Changes
These terms may change as the app grows. The date at the top of this page will change with them, and anything significant will be explained rather than quietly slipped in.
Governing law
Sukoon is made and operated from Australia. These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
